We want our young learners to enjoy English! We also want them to develop their comprehension and communication skills, Most learners of this age have now had experience with the language. As they develop intellectually, there are now very many more things they are capable of doing. The older they get, the greater the range of capacities we can work. We now want not only to continue to improve their understanding of spoken English but also to begin to speak, to use simple phrases. The plays we perform allow the student to really feel the communication. We will work basic reading comprehension of phrases, paragraphs and short texts and basic writing of simple phrases. We begin indirectly with grammar via games.
At this age, they are now quite aware that they are speaking ANOTHER language. Our target here is to get them to focus so much on what they are doing that they need to use the language to achieve what they need. While we are working on achieving these positive feelings, we are also giving them plenty of audio input with enough context for them to understand it, stories accompanied by pictures and mimes, instructions to games and activities that allow them to express their creativity in an English speaking environment.
